Choices
One of my favorite memories growing up was watching the Boston Pops under the leadership of Arthur Fiedler. He was something else. I remember the show featuring Chet Atkins, one of my parents' favorite
performers. When searching for an image for this post, I stumbled on them. This post really isn't about Arthur Fiedler or Chet Atkins . . . . or maybe it is.
Growing up with so many wonderful kinds of music was such a blessing, and this music had an enormous impact on my character. There is so much truth to the idea that what you see and hear, what you put into your mind colors who you are. When I started listening to rock and pop music, I know I changed. I allowed myself to get caught up in that rock culture. Now, I never embraced the "sex, drugs and rock n' roll" but my personality certainly changed for the worse. I could not see it at the time, but there is something about music that moves us in one direction or another. My life changed again DRAMATICALLY when I found Christian radio--not the contemporary, but the beautiful hymns we all know and love.
The little song we learn in Sunday School is so true - -- - "Be careful little ears what you hear . . ."
